It would have been a kick to see the HD rider's face when you went by. Just imagine how put-down he felt. Dave K's comments about the public perception of bike riders in the fifty's is accurate. That was the reason I had to wait until adulthood and living away from the folks to get a bike. Mom and Dad didn't want me mixing with the biker crowd. Actually that perception might not have been too far off. When I was a Cub Scout our Den Leader took us to a local malt shop for a treat. One other kid and I, being typical 8 year olds, ran ahead of everyone else. A guy wearing the uniform - black jacket, t-shirt, jeans, construction boots - walked by toward his Indian. I looked back and saw the name, "Tex" written across his jacket and read it out loud. Just proving I could read, I guess. He turned around, headed for me and snarled something like, "Yeah. What about it? Wanna make something of it?" About that time the Den Leader caught up with us and asked what was going on. The biker left and I got a lecture about minding my own business and keeping my mouth shut. I always wondered what would have happened had my Den Leader not shown up. It's much nicer as it is now, when HD riders just neglect to wave at us.

I think its funny as hell when HD riders tell me to get a real bike. When I was going to school I used to pass HD riders either bookin it to school or I would pull up next to them, drop it down in second and pull a staggered wheelie. They never know what to think when that happens.
Althought, not all HD riders arent bad. I have come across alot of them that know what our bikes can do and dont even try.

Like I said when I started this post, I own a Harley and I do ride it often. I seem to think I have the best of both worlds. Not all Harley riders are like that.

My Harley is a 1996 883 Sportster. I have owned bigger one's but this suits me fine now. I do have to admitt that back in the late 60'S when I got out of the USMC, I joined a club (gang) here in Denver called the Brothers Fast. You didn't need a Harley just a bike that was 650 or larger. I had a Norton and a Triumph Trident.
I think we stero type a person by the bike they ride. I know I catch myself doing it. I have waved to CBR riders from my Harley and don't get much of a response. Most of the Harley tuff guy wana bees around here I feel have watched way to many Old Biker movies. Wouldn't it be a riot to see a CBR screem by all the bikers in that James Dean movie.
I don't live far from the Pikes Peak race track and I love to watch the super bikes race.
Wow, I'm sure full of bull s@i* this morning.

I was on my '05 600RR last month and I ended up riding next to a Sportster on my way home from work. I don't like to speed too much so he passed me and then he was coming up to a red light. So the light turns green and I am right next to him since I didn't have to slow down and he decides to try and race me. I hit about 60 in a 35 zone and left him in the dust. That was the end of that and I tried to slow down so he could catch up but he was having none of it. The 600RR is quite small and may look like a toy yet it has some serious ***** behind it. Now the Harley rider knows it. Those V-Rods are pretty nice though...

Generaly this dosn't happen out there... but if run into a real "snotty" sportster, It will be fun !!!!!!!!!! Clean and free, Ripp'n
