Now don't get me wrong with this post cause I too own a Harley, but. I was on an on ramp to get up on I70 yesterday I guess about 55mph to merge into traffic. Up beside me appears an old school Harley with a rider about my age which is 60. I gave him a howdee wave and he gives me the finger. He yells "Get rid of the rice burner and get a real bike that at least will do the speed limit." He grabs I guess 2nd gear and flipped me off a 2nd time. Ok I tell myself, leave it alone. Like hell I will. I was still in 3rd and it took me about 2 seconds to catch him. I hit 4th and just stayed beside him. He bangs another gear and now we are at 85. Well enough is enough so I lit up my 1000. I just touched 100mph, slowed down to let him catch up and he pulled over under an over pass. Guess the poor old fart didn't know my 1000 will toast any stock Harley made (almost) So now the score is CBR 1000 1 Harley 0. If I was on my Harkey we could have been best buds.
Just wanted to share that one.

I have been riding since the late '60's. I remember all to well, when riding a Harley meant you probably raped and pillaged your way through life. It may not have been deserved, but it is how the general public viewed motorcycles. Then Honda was trying to change the motorcycle image with the campaign. "you meet the nicest people on a Honda". This all lead to the coming of age of Japanese big bikes lead by the likes the Honda 750. All of a sudden motorcycling had new respect and I wasn't looked on as some sort of trash when I rode up. I am old school, I can't forget those days. All the Harley ads in the world won't change what being a motorcycle person back then felt like, unless you were a member of gang and got your respect by being a thug. Back then you rarely seen Harleys make the long haul on an interstate, they couldn't take the pounding. If they did go on a long ride it was with a hearse and pickup truck following them. I will still take my old stock Honda 750 K3 on a heads up run down the road or across the country against a stock Harley, and as much as I hate to admit it, they are pretty good bikes today. Old world technology is great for museums, not for real world riding. Hope I didn't take this too far off line.

BackTalk, you certainly did say you had a Harley. Please don't take offense to what I said. If you read it again, you will see I am an old fart that has a hard time forgetting the past. Most Harley riders today, don't even remember the old days. But, they do like to cater to the old bad boy image.
