using clutch when shifting
I am just looking into buying a bike and have been riding dirtbikes for over 8 years and always just shifted and had no problem not using the clutch but was wondering if u can do the same on a motorcycle and have it not hurt the bike at all.
It takes a bit of practice and maybe more skill than on a dirtbike (because of more moving mass) but yes, you can do it without hurting the bike. i dont do it from first to second cause its a big jump and i cant quite hit it right, but a lot of times ill do the rest of the gears w/out clutch. Its all a preference thing, but to answer your question, yes yes yes. definately possible.

coming from the dirtbike side of things, i know what your'e asking and no it's not exactly the same. some dirtbike/atv trannies are made clutchless.
i think this needs to be qualified: yes, it is possible to upshift without the clutch -- without getting technical i'll just say this is the nature of the mechanics involved. however, downshifting without the clutch is a much more complicated and risky process. (Same principles apply if you've ever driven a stick-shift auto.)
