Default stolen bike question

How do you know if the parts you are buying are stolen? Someone told me that the frame has a vin number and the engine does too. Short of that...how do you know. A guy wants to trade me a 1000 engine for my engine out of my f4i that im parting out. How do I check if the engine is clean???

Thanks in advance

Hello & Welcome!!

There are many secret VIN #'s all over...the frame would have one, as well as the engine.
