Default Question for a newbie.

Hey guys whats up. Havent gotten a bike yet but am really considering getting one this summer. I've pretty much been set on 2 types of bikes since i started looking. Kawasaki ninja 500 And A CBR 600. I like both styles.

I have not ridden as of yet, i know these might be a little strong, not sure on the 600 though. Whatever i do buy is going to be a cheap bike because i'm attending college, i gotta have a bike though!!!. I'm going to serously start looking as soon as i finish this year up and probably going to hopefully only spend about 2,000 (i know i'm gonna be hurting). I don't need anything super special just something that i can ride.

Now the questions come. I know everyone will be a little partial here to the cbr but is this a good beginner bike? I'm not going to be buying a small bike and then trading it in next summer for a bigger one. The bike i purchase this summer will be with me for some time because i can't afford to be selling and buying every summer so its gotta last. I know i'm going to lay it down, most do.

I'm 5'5 and Weigh about 140. I Jumped on a buddy of mines cbr and really liked it and he was selling it for about 1,000 but i was warned it was not in the best of shape. Anyway, are repairs (internal) expensive on this bike. Also, what else would you Consider me taking a look at? In all reality what are my chances of getting hold of a decent bike for 2,000? I have no problem with fixing it up a bit, but nothing major. I"m also 21, and male so what should i expect as my insurance rates?

Thanks, let me know if i should look at anything else i havent asked!

Welcome to the family! I'll start by telling you that I don't know of anyone on in the U.S. that rides a 500cc bike...period! Mostly everyone starts out on a 600cc. As to which one you should get: Kawasaki Ninja ZX6/ZX636, Honda CBR 600/600 F4i, Yamaha R6 or Suzuki GSX-R 600...that really is up to you. For the sake of you spending some of that possible school money for the great shot at a bike that you'll have a while...i'd go with the Honda, Kawasaki or Suzuki. Suzuki has a lot of torque even though it's a 600cc ( you might not want to get that one as a beginner). I would suggest a Honda (biased) and then a Kawasaki. Go on Cycletrader.com and you'll find awesome bikes in your area for the price you want and then you can decide. Keep huggin'! [8D]

well maybe you show buy a beater first if you're just learning. no sense in dropping your brand new baby. get a beater, learn on it, abuse it to hell, shame your other rider friends on their brand new 6's or 10's. then get a new bike. good luck!
