Newbie question
my replacement battery went after 2 rides (6hrs ish) Had to bump start her but she wasn`t right . I have owned her for the last 10 years and she has been bullet proof. Replaced the origonal battery as she was old and I thought her sluggish starts were down to age. Now I definately have a problem. I re-charged the battery and checked the voltage with the bike running. It does not increase with revs.. just stays at 12.6/7 ish. What I dont like is the box mounted on the right hand outside of the frame just behind the battery. It looks like the bottom left of it has got very hot. I ran the bike and she definately does get v warm to the touch, though not what you would call burning. I tested the block connector with the 3 yellows for an ohms reading (still connected as i cant get it apart yet..will do though !!) and i get a reading of 0.5 ohms. Anyone give me a direction as to defining my prob. I love riding and being off the road aint worth thinking about. Cheerz for any help
i dont have any experience with this but reading through enough post, it sounds like you have Regulator/Rectifier problem... i would do a few searches on that to get you in the right direction.. and actually i think i read something in the how to section , cause this series of RR"s has had its known problems with grounding..
ill keep an eye out for you...

Yep I have a 97 I ran into ground prob also the solinoid was grounded on the strap on bat it came out of mount I also didn't know that ut had grounded out three wires on rectifier rewired it and they check system was ok I would have shop or qualified tech test whole system it would suck to replace one thing go on long ride and stater goes out permanent. Or stater is faulty fires high and low voltz and rectifier not doing it's job and you ruin battery
