I just got my first bike (01 f4i) this past weekend. The guy I got it from said it had been sitting for about 8months. It starts just fine but the oil and red indicator light is on. My question is, what maintenance should I perform on the bike before I start to ride it? (oil change, coolant, lube the chain or something...)

Id take it to someone experienced, before you bought it you didnt have anyone go through the bike? Id def get it tuned up, oil change chain tightened and lubed, brakes checked and all the normal stuff

 

Yeah definetly take it to a dealer for an oil change and ask them to give you a quick overview on the bike. They should be able to tell you the condition of the bike and what might need to be serviced or changed. That would be a good start.
