Default Newbie - needs advice on 1000F

Hello there from dark and dingy South Yorkshire, UK.
Not sure if this is the place to post this ... but here goes

Ive been asked by my other half to post on here for some help and advice on buying a cbr 1000f.
We currently ride a gpz900r and have come across this bike, decent price and condition, 88/89 model with 22000 on the clock (not sure kms or miles) in a decent state cosmetically just needs a new paint job .... but he needs to know peoples opinions of the bike before we buy it .. the things peoples have problems with most ... are they good for long distance runs as we do alot of miles in the year ... generally the good points and the bad !!!

heres hoping on some sound advice and congrats on a pretty decent site - looks like its visited by a decent bunch of peeps !!!
cheers in advance guys n gals !!!

Hello & Welcome!!

How much is the bike? Where can you get a paint job? How much would that be? Look at how much money you'll be needing to dump into the bike and base your choice on that. If you have to put 5K into the bike and can buy a new one for 9, then I would just buy a new one, unless your totally in love with the bike.

Hello and welcome to the forum Telsandy. I don't know how the pricing looks in the South Yorkshire, UK, but here in the states the 88 Hurricane will retail for about $2000 to $2500 US dollars. If you can covert that. I'm not sure what the currency is over there anymore, is everyone using euros now? From the looks of the bike, it doesn't have an extreme aggressive riding angle like the RRs so you should be ok on long rides. I see a lot of pics of them with hard cases on the rear so a lot of other people use them for trips. Good luck with what ever you do. Post pictures if you have them.

thanks for the 2 starting points
well i think that we are getting what you would call a bargain !!!
its only costing us £450, ill admit the paint work on it at the minute is seriously naff but luckily we know a mate who spraypaints ... so that wont cost a bundle !
even though it is a cheap bike and was ridden into the dealers a few days ago im still dubious about buying it - ive gotten used to the gpz and although she is falling to bits with age and overuse , i dont want to throw away money on a bike thats gonna be poor in comparison.
when i can get some photos ill post to let the experts see it and pass on their opinions

If you feel like it's a bargain, don't pass it up. Good luck with it.
