Default Hello from MA, considering buying an F4i or early rr

So, I'm a newish rider from MA(started august '15). Took the advice of others and started on an r3. It was good advice too, because I definitely would have dropped a bigger bike in a parking lot a couple times in the first few weeks; it's the slow speed maneuvers that are tough to learn for sure.

I do love the r3, and the build quality is excellent. But I feel the need to jump up to a 600. One of the main reasons being for more highway power; the r3 actually tops at 115 which is more than enough, but there's no acceleration above 75 (traffic in eastern MA moves fast, and the state troopers allow it). Naturally I've already had people try to merge right into me so I know the value of being able to zip ahead real quick in highway traffic. The other reason being 4cyl engines just plain sound nice =D

TL;DR Sooo I'm thinking an f4i would be a good next bike. It should actually come out to less than what I can sell my r3 for, and is consistently at least 1k cheaper than same year RR's. What should I look out for with these bikes? Also, if I were to grab one with cosmetic issues (some people replace their fairings with ZERO taste, or half finish doing new fairings, also maybe a bike with an easy fix stater cover replace, I have tools and can fully service a bike), does anyone have positive experiences with aftermarket plastic? Downside is the gas tank is painted, not plastic :/

Hoping to steal an f4i off of craigslist next month in "good but needs tlc and maybe plastics" condition. Hopefull $2k - $2.8k depending on my haggling abilities that day.

Welcome to CBRF!

An early 600rr is a plastic cover for the tank... A steel tank like the f4i would cost about $250-$300 to paint the tank at a body shop..

The eBay plastics are thick and brittle. So the vibrations from the bike will crack the paint.

But I liked them enough to use them... And they worked... Its hard enough and expensive enough to piece together good OEM fairings even if they aren't the same color.

Good luck. Keep us updated
