Oil light will stay on until the bike is running, it's an oil pressure light, so if it's not running there's no pressure.

If the bike was running fine before you started working on it, then it's probably something you've done/moved/unplugged.

If you just get a click when you press the start button, then it might be something as simple as a flat battery. I'd try recharging your battery or a jump start from another battery.

Is the starter motor turning?

Did you replace the cover?
