It's actually quite simple; a bhoy is from West Coast Scotland/Ireland; a bhoyo is from Wales.

I am disturbed, my Wiki research has set me wrong.

I remember one other time, many years ago when I was wrong too, but that predates Wiki so I might have to take all the blame for that .
