When refitting the alternator cover it is VERY important to make sure it is straight. There's a bearing inside it and if you're not straight it won't go on.
I found the best way to seat it was to hit it in the middle of the cover with a rubber mallet - DON'T try to pull it up on the securing bolts.
If it's already cracked, you may have to find another one or fix the crack - the alternator runs in oil.........................
Just for info,

Went to scotland yesterday afternoon to buy this lovely 2 owner bike with 21806 mileage Edinburgh bike. God it was cold all the way back 150 miles, but worth every mile. Had a blackbird 2 years ago. Didn't like that much. so far this one has been great. plenty of rides this year; including three days to scotlands west coast again.

Hello everyone my name is Alex and I am new here. I am the proud owner of my very first sport bike ever! (first motorcycle of any type actually) It is a 1993 Honda CBR 1000F and I am so excited about learning how to ride and enjoying this beautiful bike! The bike it self is immaculate to say the least, the only thing is the previous owner lost the key! So before I can enjoy it I am going to figure out how to solve this little problem!
