Completed my stick coil mod and all seems to be running fine. A very useful thread, thanks to all who contributed.

Thanks to posts in this thread from bullroarer and damo, I made up a wiring loom re-using most of the wires that came of the donor CBR600F4 loom. and hooked directly into the factory 3 pin plug on the left side of the engine.

These pictures show the loom laid out and ready to solder, the loom made up and everything installed

I sourced four ford PCV grommets from my local wrecker - it seems that the same grommet has been used in Ford Falcons for decades so plenty to choose from and they didn't even bother to charge for them when I went to pay. They are a remarkably good fit.

Just to prove it's a good mod for most cycles, here's my mod on my 98 R1. superb once again.

'*** packet sketch' .....well, I don't smoke!

Total cost around £45 as the coils had some rash from the buffoon who removed them and I purchased Denso LX38 and Tyco Amp plugs and made my own loom.

The only difference with the R1 is the plug holes are smaller so it didn't require the Ford PCV grommet, all it required was to turn the fireblade rubber upside down and use an o'ring over the grommet as below.

Don't forget to fit some grommets, otherwise, the coils will shake around and wear off the tops of your plugs.

Default Question on coil polarity...

In the picture, the black and white wires are labelled as negative, but in the wiring diagram for the CBR1000F as i have attached, they look to be wired positive, and that wojld seem to be the case in my bike. When the ignition is on, i have 12volts at black and white wires. I have tried to test polarity wiith a pencil and "flare test" but seemed inconclus

Yeah, a typical ignition system has the coils go hot when the key is turned to ON. The negative side is cycled to make spark.
