Engine Rebuild Video Series - 87 CBR1000F
Thanks fella
Sorry I've been so quiet on the forum lately - I've been crazy busy at work for the last many months, and also been working on rebuilding a V65 Magna. Yet another of my perpetually unfinished reclamation projects...
I daily the Hurricane almost every day to work, and a had a few runs up the highway as well. It's been an excellent machine. Some great riding. Fits like a glove
The old smell of burned rat is gradually fading away, but every once in a while a catch a whiff of that same dumb joy I had when riding the bike in my 20's - except now it actually runs well and parts hardly ever fall off it
Hardly ever

Plastics are mostly done on the CBR though. Glad you are riding yours, I haven't even done an annual zip around yet.
I am right about to pull the engine on my 1990 CBR 1000F your videos are absolutely confidence builders. Thank you so much for the spread sheets. Originally I was just going to replace just the Alternator tensioner. Your videos have boosted my confidence. I might just well change out the guide and Cam Chain Tensioner also. In your experience can I drop the engine out of the frame keeping the head on the Engine?
Yep - the engine can be dropped in one piece - that's how they would've done it at the factory. It's pretty heavy though so a hoist or jack will make it easier
The alternator chain won't be accessible without splitting the crankcase, so you're in for a big job, but if you take it methodically it's not too bad
It's a well built engine. Much easier to work on than the V4 I've got on the bench currently...
Good luck!
