Default Front Wheel Bearings - Replace - CBR1000F

Front Wheel Bearings - Replace - CBR1000F (There are many great videos on Youtube, but this is CBR1000F specific and may be helpful to first timers - and an alternate view for those who have done it before).

Download document (many quality pictures ) from link below [16 pages may take some time depending on your internet service].

Additional notes to workshop manual and attached photos..

1. Buy quality bearings (Made in Japan – not China [‘All *****” are Chinese]]
2. PLACE BEARINGS IN FREESER FOR AT LEAST 4 HOURS (OVERNIGHT FOR ME) TO ASSIST IN FITMENT.
3. Remove front wheel – bike on centre stand and then use pit lift or jack under motor to raise front wheel.
4. Place some plastic wedge between brake pads to avoid inadvertent operation. (Good time to check pads for wear).
5. Use a Rubbish bin as a suitable table to work on wheel.
6. Page 11. Looking at the bike from the front – there is the LARGE spacer on your RIGHT. Remember when replacing.
7. Page 12. Looking at the bike from the front – there is the SMALL spacer on your LEFT. Remember when replacing.
8. Page 13 – 14. Both bearings were replaced – one was OK but the other was very “notchy” and grated when rotated in the hand. The bearing seal has been removed for illustration only. [ Before bearing replacement - when the bearings were tested on the bike - no wear or grating could be felt when the wheel was rotated.]
9. Page 15 - 16 – good time to check your disk for serviceability thickness – must not be less than 4mm (just made it!)
10. Replace with new bearings and use old seals.
11.Your done! Have a beer and go for a ride!

What are the symptoms of needing new bearings? The same as a car? Or is it time sensitive or mileage based?

Sorry Sprock - I thought the part numbers came out in my photos. The part numbers for front bearings I use are "6004-2NSE9" made by NACHI. <From your prompting I have also added this to the write-up. Thanks. >

Whilst your buying them why not buy these at the same time.... Rear Wheel Bearings - QTY 1 of 6305-2NSE9 & QTY 2 of 6304-2NSE9 made by NACHI.

FYI in $US .... about $45 for 5 bearings is what I pay here from local bearing shop.
