Default engine gurus needed! complete engine rebuild pics

okay!

I am rebuilding my cbr 600 f2 engine that has been leaking oil and water mixed; and out of some weird places... like oil out of the water pump, i dont know how recently the bike was run. i have a complete upper and lower gasket and seal set, and want to do this right, but dont know what looks good or bad

Now, i will say this up front, i do not know what wear looks like, so if you see something that should be fixed or replaced PLEASE shout it out. i need you engine gurus to help me out here. thanks!

Here we go:

Valve cover removed, i didnt figure you needed a picture of the valve cover on....

Now, loosen the bold in reverse numerical order to allow the covers to de-compress evenly (dont worry... they are numbered)

i guess i should post pics of the cams to check for abnormal wear or damage...

valve followers numbered for removal:

Blown head gasket...now, the $5 million question is... is the head warped?

Clutch cover removed... and why is there coolant in here?

it would appear that someone has been here before me... (and the put on the washer that says "outside" on one side... the wrong way around...) FAIL! new nut ordered... aslo the cover was put on without a gasket.. just some RTV

I am kinda stuck cause i need a "honda service too" to remove the magneto as well as a funky torx, so i have to find something that works, or find a tool. any info on that? after that comes off i will be able to split the cases and double check that there isnt a hole the coolant is leaking out of, then everything will get cleaned and re-assembled with new gaskets and seals... i am gonna do a valve job for sure, but not till i get everything else back on.

anything else i should do while i have it open?

thanks for looking!

A CBR guru I am not, but after looking at the pics I would definately have the oil cooler pressure checked to ensure there was no oil / antifreeze contamination happening there as well as a good look at the seals, it just seems like a logical cross contamination point. It is common on *most* engine types to get coolant into the crank case when the head is pulled off by my experience.

I had found a post on here recently that had 2 links in it, one for the CBR600F2 Service Manual, and one for the Honda General Service manual (i think this is the one you are refering to). I just can't find the stupid thing again, the link was somthing like sephy.com or somthing like that.

thanks guys!

i will certainly check out the oil cooler, someone else mentioned the possibility of bad o-rings in there, the problem is however, that coolant didnt get in from me tearing it apart, it was there before. I am pretty sure that the bike sat with partially filled coolant for several years... which means everything is SUPER corroded

I do not have either of the f2 specific manual or the general maintenance manual, so expect a PM from me

have the head checked, make sure it isn't warped. Have a machine shop mill it if need be

remember that oil floats on water. the coolant was a the bottom of your motor because the oil was on top. It looks pretty decent for water inside. The top of your cam chain guide shows some surface rust. Steam from the head gasket issue. Your cooling jackets show a lot of buildup, probably due to water being used if it was a race bike. they don't allow anti-freeze as it is super slippery and makes people fall down really fast.

The clutch center lock nut looks like a poor job of staking the nut. Manual doesn't show a lock tab.

Looks like gravity may be your culprit as the oil doesn't look frothed up from usage. the high temps and pressures make mess. It looks more like drainage in your case. The radiator is the highest point. Were any of the piston rings rusty?
