Wow, great minds think alike.

I'm in the process of doing the same thing. The only thing I'm doing different is I removed the padding from my rear seat (got a crashed one from ebay) and am only using the plastic base plate.

Cool idea. I have the same bag but isn't it mounted backwards? I thought it was supposed to go the other way for aerodynamics not that it matters.

Nope, that is the way it mounts. The fat part toward the front.

Yeah, it comes with a poncho to slip on for rain. I don't use it. I never used washers because all the holes in the pack have eyelets.
