I did this conversion before i read this post. I have leds in the back and in the front. Is it going to effect them if i did not use the diodes?
Everything seems to work fine. Havent blown any fuses and all blinks work.
Thanks for the tut.

It will not affect the lights but it will mess with the blinker indicators on your gauge. At least that's the case for the F4i, can't be certain about other bikes.

I am having trouble getting my new Motrax LED's to work correctly. I followed the how to but they just don't work correctly. The Motrax have black and yellow wires I assumed the yellow was the same as the hot bodies red wire and did everything the same. They are very dim and when they blink the other side blinks too altough not very noticable. I used the 1N4001 diodes from Radio Shack and I also got a Motrax Flash it that is suposed to replace the stock relay to slow the speed of the blinker and it didn't work. When I installed the Flash it the binkers wouldn't blink at all. Any ideas?

Curt

I've done this mod to my bike as well.

I just wanted to post this diagram so its easier to see exactly how to wire the signals.

Check out post #5

BTW, why can't I post pictures? Is there a minimum number of posts required?

is there a way to test the diodes to make sure there working? I installed them according to the diagram with the silver stripe facing towards the led lights. They light up, but when I put on the turn signal, neither side will flash. It actually turns off the light. Any thoughts? The diode also smells like an electrical burn smell.

thanks

Good Mod...it works.

*BUT* apparently it works a little too well on some of the smaller flush mounts, like mine. I have/had catseye flush mount turn signals w/ regular bulbs. They worked great as long as they were just being used as turn signals only. However, as running lights, they apparently weren't designed to handle the constant power & heat for being running lights. They melted.

Hey, you live & learn right? My particular signals just couldn't handle it. Just wanted to let you guys know that this could happen to you.

For the record... My flush mounts were properly installed (by me), soldered & shrink tubing.

Thanks again for the write up.
