shift rod snapped.
Today sucked, the first good day of riding and about an hour into a ride I pull out onto a four lane divided highway and go for second gear and nothing. I look down and my shift lever is just dangling. I was able to coast to the shoulder were I could manually jam it into third so I could make it home. Thanks to the sprocket conversion I could take off in third OK and would just have to hold the clutch in when I stop. My question is can I just replace the tie rod bolt or would I have to replace the whole mechanism (the shift lever, linkage rod, and the arm that bolts onto the transmission shaft)? Any ideas?
Was it just the rod that snapped -- ya know between the heim joints and jam nuts? If so then you can order just that piece but it'll prolly take the shop a week to get it in.
Yeah it was just the rod itself. I went to the local honda shop and ordered one for 5 bucks. Should be in, in a couple days. Do you just screw the both ends back in or will I have to take everything off put it together and then put it back on as one piece?
