Has A Cam Chain Ever Snapped?
#3
Not that i've ever heard of either .... Not JUST the cam chain anyway .... Cam chains are designed to be very tough ... and they ride in oil so they're always lubricated good ... they stretch slowly and don't really have an enormous load on them .... I'm thinkin the only thing that could snap a cam chain would be if somehow or another one of the cams seized up or if something broke off inside the motor and got caught up in it ... but by then a cam chain breaking is the LEAST of your worries trust me ... lmao ....

Please do remember that a worn cam chain will wear out the teeth on the sprockets, just like the drive chain does
And I'd rather replace JUST a chain and tensioner than half the engines valve train.
Idk if the sprockets are replaceable or fixed to the cams/crank, but it will not be cheap.

Yep, I snapped a cam chain.....................................on my huuuuugely powerful Honda SL125 trail bike does that count?
Being a typical tweenager at the time the bike was never maintained properly except with the use of a large hammer-an equally large screw driver and an 18" adjustable spanner, oil never changed, air filter-whats that?, always thrashed from cold start up, drowned in the odd river from time to time, suffered the odd fuel fire(ya know the ones-when ya try to warm the plug to get it to start but end up setting the bike on fire instead-oh, and the scrub around you), ridden hard in dirt-sand-mud and never cleaned, filled up with any fuel at hand (typically dodgey stuff at best or two stroke mix), Crash started-bump started and tow started when it refused to Frvckin kick start, it was always dropped-dumped-jumped-crashed-smashed and rolled-bowled and Rse ole'd.
After about a year of this tender lovin abuse it still idled beautifully with that lovely CLANK-CLANK-CLANK-CLANK, music to any tone deaf clown..............like me. It only last three years till the cam chain snapped totalling the motor..........................bloody unreliable Honda crap! I mean heck, I got it for 'free' from my Dad, it shoulda lasted waaaaay longa eh? or was I being slightly unreasonable?????
Cheers, A Dub-ya
