Question plate light relocating help

Ive just relocated my license plate on my 04cbr600rr from under my seat
To the rear end due to florida laws,
But im having trouble relocating my plate light because the wire
Is not long enough to reach the rear. Do i strip and add wire?
If so what type of wire can i use.

You can use butt splices and add a length of wire to make it reach. Just use whatever gauge wire that's in there now. It's probably 18ga.

Also, since you're relocating the plate and light anyway, do you know about those lighted license plate bolts? They're not for decoration; they take the place of a dedicated license plate light as well as holding your plate onto a bracket. The wires in this pic might be long enough to splice right into your existing wire harness with butt splices. Pretty cool.

Here's an example. Do a Google search if you're interested in something like this.

If you do salvage some wire from around your home, just make sure it is at least the same thickness if not slightly thicker than your original wire on the bike. If you use some that is thinner, it may got hot and melt! Thinner wire means less resistance, thicker means more resistance and is safer!
