Default Oil low, power cut out?

Hi guys, was riding along as per usual the other day, I started to open her up (my cbr 600 f3 95-96) all of a sudden she died!
was running fine till then and as the power had gone I started to slow, although I dropped through the gears and the engine was still going just no power.

So I had a good look over her unplugged all connections and replugged, no luck! so tried the kick stand a few hundred times and the power cut button and still no luck.

I did however realise my oil was very low, just touching the top of the base of the dip stick (poor maintenance on my part I know) but would there be a switch in the engine that would protect it from running with no oil?

otherwise I have no idea what it could be! all help appreciated!

Many thanks

Kieran

Hi! I assume you have now topped up the oil? If so, did it make any difference? It could be that your engine was nipping up or seizing very slightly, due to the low oil level. Another cause could be the ignition not advancing, which I guess it electronic? Check with a timing light shining the light on the timing marks to see if they move or advance when you rev the engine. Other than that it may be fuel starvation. Turn the fuel on, wait a few seconds, then turn fuel off. Now remove all four float bowl chambers and see how much fuel is in each and that they are all the same level. Get yourself a Haynes manual for your model as it will have lots more things you can try or test to try and solve your problem. Hope you get to the bottom of it!

Absolutely no power at key on? Check the main fuse.

Default Hi guys thanks

Hi, well I had tried most things before posting and nothing seemed wrong, did top oil up and nothing, stripped down and all fine put together and nothing!

In the end I was trying it again and tap the kill switch by accident with my finger and she ticked over? strange, tried it again, started!

By pure luck I found out it was a faulty kill switch! when it was slightly compressed it worked fine when not touching it wouldnt work at all!

Eventually took it apart and cleaned the contacts and its perfect now!

Cheers for the help!!!

Many thanks

Kieran

Glad you got it sorted. Just goes to show that it is usually something simple in the end as you found out! Well done you!
