Default Oil light problem - 05 600RR

My 2005 600RR's oil light randomly blinks on and off when I'm riding. I continuoulsy check my oil but there is enough. I noticed it occurs most often when I accelerate but it also happens during cornering and sometimes when cruising on straight aways (but hardly).

Any ideas?

Help would be greatly appreciated.

It could be something as simple as a loose connection or faulty sensor.

Or, it could be as bad as your oil pump is failing or spun a main bearing on your crank.

If your bike is running fine and there no odd knock noises or anything, (listen for two or three slight knocks on a cold start up), your probably ok as far as the bearing. However, you will want to find out for sure that your oil pump is not failing. If it does, you will ruin your engine pretty quick.

the fact that it happens while cornering or acceleration makes me wonder if the pump is cavitating with the changes in pressure to the g force. If thats the case, a new pump is in order.

If it were me, I would probably take in and have the dealer check it out. they should be able to test the sensor and the wiring to make sure they are working properly. They should have a way to test the pressure that the pump is producing, but Im not 100 percent sure.

just out of curiosity, what brand and viscosity oil are you using?

AMSoil 10w-40. Is that okay for an '05 with nearly 7800 miles on it?

Sorry, but I'm new to the motorcycle world.

Yes, Amsoil 10-40 is fine, as long as its the motorcycle oil. Your bike is well broken to run any type of motorcycle oil, synthetic or conventional. On the other hand, thats many miles to start having serious issues. It could be any number of things though.

there really isnt a way to say what it is without inspecting the items I suggested. I would seriously consider taking the bike in. Just in case its something serious, its a whole lot cheaper to catch it now than later. It could mean the difference of 200 bucks or 2000.

Has the bike been in any type of accident? If so, I would lean towards a faulty sensor or wiring issue.

I bought her about 3 weeks ago from a private seller. He told me he laid the bike down once and the previous owner had never damaged her. There are scratches on the right mirror and a small crack on the right fearing...other than that the bike is in good condition.

He also had a problem with the wiring so he had her completely re-wired last year.

Should I be of concern?
