Default newbie question

I know this is a beginner question, but hey I'm a beginner only 6 months of riding under my belt. But It's time for a new chain and sprocket kit. What's the difference between O-ring and X-ring chains? Does one last any longer or cause less friction on the sprockets, etc?

the o-ring chain and the x-ring chain are basically the same. The difference is in the cross section of the o-ring. On a standard O-ring, the cross section is round. On the X ring, the main shape is round, but there are slight raised wipers. Basically, the X ring chain seals out dirt better by creating more than one sealing surface where a standard O-ring only has the one surface. The chain themsleves are generally the same.

The X ring chain in theory should last longer as it will seal out dirt better from the bearing surfaces of the chain. But as long as you keep your chain clean and don't live on a dirt road, they will probably last the same.

If u are new u will probably be ripping the head off it, the xring golds take a beating and don't stretch as easy, my track r1 stretches them every blast. To save ur self hassle in future take my advice always spend cash on a chain its the only thing between ur back wheel and beasty little engine! Keep it well oiled to u can feel the difference, a dry chain is a lazy rider. Makes me sick seein that lol. Hope it helps :P
