Default new to CBRs: purchase advice

This weekend I may be looking at my first ever CBR. I am in the market for a used CBR, and like many, need to keep it fairly low budget. While I understand "you get what you pay for," I have had some decent luck with some used bikes if I know what pitfalls to look out for. I have gotten mostly fixer-uppers, and done work myself to keep costs down to parts (and had a ball in the process!).

I'm sure these bikes require a whole new batch of tools I don't have - but then again, that's half the fun

Typical question: what are the obvious things to look out for in a quick buyer/seller inspection of a 1994 CB1000f?

Thanks in advance for any help.

The 1994 is a great bike, if I do say so myself. You're going to look at the normal things you'd look at on any bike. Is there lots of rust on the parts that are difficult to wash, are the tires in good condition ? How's the chain and sprockets ? How does the oil look on the dipstick, and how's the brake fluid look in the reservoir ? I don't pay much attention to mileage, but I do compare the condition against the mileage. If it's got 10k miles and looks like it should have 100k, you know what I mean. Pretty basic things. The 1000F has a tendency to have a noisy cam chain. It's a pain to replace the tensioner, but easily done in a weekend. I hope some of this helps.

Thanks so much IDD,

I think this bike may have a bit of wear on it - but most do if they are going for less than outrageous prices around here.

Appreciate the tips. We will see how it plays out.

Here's mine @ work. I don't ride it as much anymore. Been riding the 600 most of the time.

Sorry, this was my first question, hadn't even seen the hurricane board when I posted it.

Then I also read where it's very frowned upon to post the same question multiple places....so I didn't want to get the 'powers that be' in an uproar.
