Great Idea. Im going to do that this summer when i get my bike out. Bike cover and lock it to the rim of my car. A plus is to get a set of lug nuts that need a special key. Thats what i got.
Just make sure someone's video recording it when you forget to detach your bike from the rim of the car and drive off. That'll make for some good YouTube, lol.

I use a locking cover and disc brake lock on mine when I drive it to work

It must be really hard to shift like that. You probably should at least remove the cover first.
