How long for the tires to warm up??
I am new to the world of streetbikes and was wondering how long does it take for the tires to warm up? I have the stock Dunlop 208's on my bike, 600RR, and I do not ride too crazy or ride at the track. I just ride for pleasure on the weekends, maybe hit some twisty roads for fun, but I am always scared that my tires aren't warmed up enough. I keep hearing about people going down due to cold tires, or they stop and the tires cool off, so when they get back on they wipe out. Any insight is greatly appreciated!! Thanks
2 laps around the track?!?!?! so like 2 miles of weaving, etc...
usually, by the time you get to the twists, it's warmed up enough...just scrub in the sides a bit and then go for it!
on cold days, tire usually never warm up very well.

Not to say tahoe is wrong... but that completly varies. some tracks its 1 warm up lap, some its 2.. and thats usually for race tires. I would say a mile or 2 and they are safe to take twisties on though as taho stated above. you would really have to hammer on it hard to have a tire slide out from being cold. They need to be warm to achieve full stickyness, but they are still pretty damn good before that. I have had my tire slip early only once or twice and that was slipping the clutch right when I left the house to do wheelies.
Tahoe, mang! what's up with the post mang? I think someone stole your screen name mang!!!

warm up time depends solely on compound of the tire and your riding style (and weather/temp of course), if you go 5 mph and don't turn or brake much its gonna take a while, if you leave your driveway spinning up the rear as you acclerate, etc it won't take as long. Harder compound street tires are also going to take longer to warm up than soft compound race tires. I don't know which 208s come on the RR (bought mine used), but because they are street tires and made to last longer, they will take a few aggressive miles to warm up.

It also depends on what pressures you're running too. The lower the tire pressure the faster they will warm up and vice versa. I'm fat so I have to run at like 40psi I think my left leg already exceeds the max weight limit for the bike.
