How long on my tires
Hey,
I purchased my 954RR in August. The seller said the bike has original front and rear tires. The bike is almost at 8K on the odometer. The tires are pretty worn front and rear. The bike will be in the garage until spring when I want to try to get it down to a local motorcycle shop to get new tires on it. Is the bike safe to drive with 8K miles on the original tires?
Also, What PSI should I run at, Front and rear.
-Thanks

you should have new ones, thats for sure. not only just because those tires are worn, but tires today are soo much more advanced. if they're going to be sitting until spring, thats fine, but you really need to check them out before you ride them to the shop. they could have cracks, they'll definitely have wear spots, and it'll be dangerous to ride on them. no joy rides around town to make sure your bike fared the winter okay first, you should go STRAIGHT to the shop the first day of spring and get new tires.
Thank you for the reply. I've read some posts of people have 10K on front and rear sounded like alot, How long do the stock tires on a 954RR Last (Michelin Pilots - I think) without serious wear, I think I'll have them put those on again
i think they're dunlops.... 208's or something?
well, i could believe 8k out of the front, but i'd think 5k.... maybe 6k out of the rear - but thats riding around a slow small town and never getting on the gas.
i run 36psi rear and 34 front. it just depends. play around with it.

It's the age of the tires and hard the rubber has become along with dry rotting that would concern me. Just make sure to replace them first thing when you start riding again. I have Dunlop Sportmax GPA-209's and run 34 psi up front and 28 out back to give me better life/grip. The psi all depends in the tire however.
Yes, i'd personally be more concerned with the age of the tires than the wear of them. Take it easy, and you'll be fine.
8k out of 1 set of shoes! Im doing something wrong.....I would have been through at least 3 or 4 rears and 2/3 fronts. : ) Due to the age of the rubber. Save yourself some grief and pony up for a new set for your baby! She will thank you later for it. Just wait until Spring if the scooter is going to sit. Maybee do some online shopping in the off season to score a great deal on some new shoes. 2 Ct's can be stolen right now due to the Pures hitting the market.
