Default Help! Blowing fuses and jerky ride.

Hello all,

Today I replaced the rear universal turn signals with other universal turn signals. I went for a short ride and then it got all jerky all of a sudden and my meters stopped working, along with my front and rear turn signals. I pulled over and checked the fuses and the 15A for the meters and turn signals was blown. I then replaced it with a spare and when the ignition was turned on it blew. As for the jerky ride...first gear is good but part throttle in anything above that is jerky and the motor doesn't want to rev, it sputters. It idles smooth and starts up fine but no acceleration. What did I do! OMG! It's getting dark here in SoCal so tomorrow I'll re-check my wiring and see what's up. Any and all help, opinions and etc will be helpful. PM me or post. 74demon, please chime if and when you read this.

Thanks,

David

whats up man? recheck your wiring. make sure you didn't pinch a wire or something. blown fuse means its grounding out somewhere.

Word. I'll poke around and re-wire it according to OEM Spec, it was a mess before I got in there and swapped out the old rear turn signals.

Why do you think the left side turn signals blink faster than the right and why does the rear right turn signal get hot to where it melts the plastic lens?

it needs a certain resistance (of 2 bulbs) for the flasher to blink. half the resistance = twice the blinks. check both bulbs on that side.

make sure the bulbs are correct for the sockets and of the correct wattage. bulbs being too close to the plastic, too hot, and on all the time can melt things. they produce lots of heat...

turn on the key, for a few minutes and feel the tail light. then hold the brake and feel how warm it gets. you will see what i mean.

Update 01/12/2011:

Lights work now without blowing fuses, I replaced the connectors going into the harness with new ones. I now want to put the turn signals back to where they're not on as running lights all the time. The lights get really hot and are on the verge of melting the lenses. Why are they so damn hot? How might these be hooked up to function in this manner? I'm going review the wiring diagram and do a tear down of the fairings tomorrow to get at the wiring. Any suggestions on what I should be looking for or how this is usually done so I can prod around and perhaps reverse engineer it? As always all help is appreciated.

Thanks,

David
