Default Manual fan switch install

Hey guys,

I keep digging through threads, researching the problem I'm having with my fan blowing a fuse immediately when it kicks on, and I think I'm just going to run a manual switch to it.

Where have you seen switches mounted on these bikes?

Do I need to install a fuse somewhere?

Looking at radio shack switches, I see one that says it's SPST 16 amp, 125 volts. Is this too much, too little?

I'm not very knowledgable on this stuff. I can do the soldering/install well, but I'm not very good with knowing what I need.

Any input is appreciated, thank you.

Is the amp fuse use for the fan correct? When fuse blows once fan is on, it's telling you something is wrong. Try to solve it, rather than bypass...start your own thread and have members jump in to help...

Yes, they have been 10A fuses. I just checked the manual to verify that 10A is what is supposed to be in there.

Default Fan blowing fuses

I just started another thread on running a switch to manually turn the fan on and off, but was recommended to start a thread on finding the real solution....so here is my problem:

My fan kicks on when it is supposed to, but when it does, it blows the fuse immediately.

That's where I am.

Did you check if fan is able to spin freely. You can unplug the wire from the fan switch(coming from the radiator) and ground it. See if fan spin freely, no weird noises, or stuck or bad blade. If fan is unable to spin free, then it pulls more load and blow the fuse.

also, you can try spinning fan by hand (keys off)....feel how smooth is it? sometimes dirt, hair from your GF (LOL)....get stuck inside. If fan is not spinning smooth....fuse will blow cause fan is working extra hard.

So I checked it out yesterday, looks like you're spot on. The shroud around the fan is bent in a little at the top where the bracket is welded on. The fan is hitting it and stopping. I wasn't able to bend it without taking it off so I'll have to tackle it tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for your help, I'll let you know.
