Ride only down hill with the wind at your back.

I hear you with the gas mileage. I'm at 40 to 45 and I ride fairly easy. How can a big *** car with engines 4 times bigger than ours get 35 mpg??? Granted they can't run 11 second 1/4 mile but seriously. I knew a guy with a Valkyrie, he got 22MPG, I got better than that in a V-8 BMW 5 series.

From what i understand MPG will increase as the bike gets older. There is less friction in the engine therefore it doesnt have to do as much fuel work to get the motor going, which in turn makes for better gas mileage. My CBR has 800 miles on it and its getting crap for gas mileage, after the first oil change i could tell a difference in gas consumption though.

Mine has 12,000 miles on it and it has gotten better than when it was new, but still, you'd think it'd be higher. I generally get 44 easy riding around town, 41 out on the twisties, 48/49 steady on the freeway. I weigh in at 120#, which probably helps over a heavier rider.

Take teeth off the rear sprocket until you find a happy medium between power and fuel economy?

Jc77, It'l get better, as it gets broke in, check air preasure, dropa couple in the rear(teeth), or add on the front, easyer on the chain. keep that chain lubed, quit blipp'n the throttle so much (on down shifts and in town too), make sure it's truely broke in before going full synthetic oil. get a wind screen, 1 or 2 taller, duck slightly, Toes in ,on the pegs(worth a couple mph topend too), don't wear bulky jackets, steady hand,w/ the gas(pretend it raining!), short shift( don't lug, when new) Loose weight(ant's got it made!!!!)DRAFT STATE TROOPERS !!!!!!! Clean and free, Ripp'n
