Default Fuel mileage

2000 929RR with 28k on it

-full yoshimura exhaust
-power commander allegedly set on most modest setting

I seem to get about 30mpg...the light went on at about 100 miles. Now its on again before even 190...this seem normal?

i have never seen 190 on my 929. the max i have ever got out of a tank was in the 160's and that was with a 954 map in my pc, i usually get about 130 before the light but that was before the full exhaust and the new map so i dont know what ill be getting, i have to wait until warmer weather hits.

Highest I've seen was mostly interstate miles (135), but around town it is a sure thing to come on between 118 and 121. Also every time i change my oil i throw in new sparks and filters so i don't know.) You running 93 octane?

I have a 929 with Two Bros exhaust and -1, +2 gearing and my light comes on pretty soon after 100 miles. 110 sometimes. Last tank I got about 32mpg.

I just changed my plugs and put on a new full Arata exhaust, and my mileage dropped quite a bit. Someone was nice enough to send me a map that they had custom for their setup (very similar to mine now), and I'm only getting like 25 mpg. I have -1 front sprocket, BMC air filter, full exhaust, PC3. I've only been getting about 100 miles before the light comes on. Before the plugs and exhaust it was around 120+. Does this seem normal?? I'm going to be looking more into the custom map I'm running really soon. That gas mileage is worse than my car!!

I am only on my 3rd full tank of gas since I bought the bike, but I got 30 mpg on the first tank, 32.5 on the second. I think I'll be able to squeeze 35 mpg out of this tank, but it's looking like that will be the limit. And that's riding very fuel-consciously, making an effort to conserve gas. When I just go out and ride I get 30 or so. *****-out is waaaaaay less.

OK. I think I just made a BIG discovery!!! I'm going to do my best to explain....

When I put on exhaust and installed new map, I noticed that the far left column of fuel numbers was 10. This was different, but I figured there wasn't anything wrong with it since it had been done professionally. I even changed this to zero, and the bike seemed to run rougher.

Anyways, I also noticed that when I plugged my bike up to the laptop that my throttle position (readout) wasn't changing when I goosed the throttle. I thought this to be weird, but figured it might not react fast enough to read.

THEN, today I was doing some reading on the PC3 website and I saw a tutorial about calibrating your throttle position to the PC3!! I didn't know that you could do this!! Mine must be off because it's ALWAYS reading zero on the readout. This would mean that for my last pipe I was getting a "stock" setup because it didn't ever think that my throttle got out of the zero position!! And NOW it is 10% richer (which would explain the approximate 10% decrease in gas mileage)!! I haven't been getting the use out of my PC3 since I've owned it!! That kinda bums me out...

BUT, now I'm REALLY excited to see if this fixes my problem and see if my bike runs like a bat out of hell!!

What do you guys think?? Do you think I'm on the right track?? It makes a lot of sense in my twisted head. The guys with PC's should be able to help out with this.

Also, if this does work, I'm thinking of running a cleaner through the bike to clean up any carbon (I know there is some) deposits from running rich the last couple of weeks. Any suggestions or experience with that?? Thanks

If you want a squeaky clean motor use a water injection system. They're mostly used on turbo cars that run low pressures and don't want an intercooler. The combustion chambers on engines running water/meth injection look like they did when the engine was built. They run about $300 for a good setup, but you could advance your timing more as well and squeeze out a few more hp.
