first service at 600 miles
Hi folks. Don't really know my way around here yet, so please excuse me in advance. I got a cbr 600 rr (08 model) a few weeks ago and quickly reached the 600 mile mark. I was told that the first service was due at that mileage, but getting the dealer to perform the service isn't possible till july 8, as they are busy. I don't want to wait till then, I just want to ride.
I have done an oil change with gl4 and a new filter, and checked/lubed the chain myself. I am an automotive technician by day. My main question is, does anyone know what an initial 600 mile check includes as far as checks?
Any retorquing of bolts etc? Any specifics offered would be appreciated. This is my first performance/modern bike. My other two are a cb 550 four and a cb 750 four, so I'm a little lost on the new one. Thanks for any replies and ride safe..

Change oil and filter(just make sure the drain plug is tight as a tech you should know). clean and lube chain, check and adjust chain tension. For warranty reasons you must have ALL receipts showing you purchased the proper stuff(oil weight and filter part #). and write the date and milage on the receipt. but me now being at 3600 miles i have had two bolts vibrate out so check all bolt as a precaution.
Sounds like you did the right things. Its not required that you have the dealership do your work so your doing the right thing by doing it yourself.

check torque on axle bolts.
check coolant level.
tire pressure.. I think thats about all they do at the 600.
You dont have to worry about warranty. Manufacturers can't make you use their products or services. As long as the oil and filter meet their standards, you can use it. If the engine fails, its up to them to prove you did something wrong. I"m not sure what good it would do to save reciepts and writing data on them. There would still not be any proof you actually put that in the bike. Either way, you are fine doing you own maintenance on the bike without fear of warranty issues.
Also, in the back of your owners manual, there should be a check list towards the back of it that says in detail what is performed at each interval.

I love the bull that that tell you about the 1st free service, then hit you up for oil etc.

In my last job I got a new car every two years, being a government department we had a huge fleet of cars, the 1st service requirement was crossed out in our handbooks (by the Auto Make manufacturer/distributor) So Im guessing that even they thought the 1st service was b*llsh*t. Its a hangover from the good old day when they used to add graphite to the oil, so it would polish & bed the internals, so you had to change the oil after a 1000 kays (600mls) or your motor would slowly grind itself away.
These days the engineering/tolerances/alloys are pretty amazing & that type of thing does not have to be done & they bed the motor (run it) before it leaves the factory.
