First service @ 600 miles
Hello all,
Just got an appointment for my first service for my 06 1KRR. The guy said it would probably cost about $400.
My reaction is that it's a big number.
What does your experience tell you? Does it sound fair? Is this the norm?
Thanks!

From everything I can tell, there's no reason to take it in.
Change your oil and filter,
check fluids,
adjust throttle,
lube and adjust chain as needed,
give everything else a look-over

I totally agree with OldFatGuy. The only reason to take your bike into the dealer is if your time is worth more then the $400 you will spend. In other words if you can make $500 during the couple of hours it will take YOU to change your oil then by all means take it in and make money. If $400 is a lot of money to you then do the service yourself. I am at the financial point in my life where I pay for the oil changes for my cages but $400 for what amounts to an oil change is ridiculous. You can almost buy your own motorcycle lift for that much!
If you can wait, and don't have the confidence to remove the plastics yourself then order the OEM shop manual online at www.helmsinc.com then follow the instructions in it. You will be much better off spending the money on the oil, filter and any tools you might not have to get the job done. Then take the rest of the money you saved and buy a cool mod for your bike and you should still have $100 left over to take your girl/wife out to dinner on the bike you so proudly maintained yourself.

They are traying to take you for something!! Do not do it. My dealer said $160.00 for the 600 miles service (includes labor). I will take it the dealer just this time because of the adjustments but after that I will be my own mechanic.
Ditto that. I brought mine in 2 days ago. The quote was $150 or so, but ended up being $100 after applying my Extended Warranty discount.
I'd rather let them do the adjustments at 600 miles just cuz I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to working on them, but I'll handle the oil changes from here on out.
