FI light flickering on 01' F4i
Howdy all!
I recently purchased an 01' F4i (~16k) and promptly embarked on a trip to the Ozarks. As I left AR to head back to WI, my FI light started to flicker at ~2-3000 RPMs, though it appeared to taper off at high RPMs (I do not consciously look at the cluster at high revs, so I could be mistaken...) At idle, the FI light is off. I rode back to WI without any problems, and promptly diagnosed the issue. 9 blinks when the ECM is shorted: IAT sensor. I tested the resistance; and it was within spec. I also tested the wire lead to the sensor; good voltage. I reset the ECM, however the code came back and it still flickers when rev'd. The interesting part: I never noticed this initially, but now when I use the blinkers, the FI light flickers brighter, and in sync with the flashing. Also, the FI light becomes much brighter with the high beam on. This sounds like a short to me, but is not intuitively related to the IAT code being called out by the ECM. Seperate issues, or is there a relation I am overlooking?... I just thought of revving the bike while testing the voltage to the IAT sensor (resonance possibly weakening a connection somewhere...) I have a few ideas, however any additional insight would be greatly appreciated!
Regards,
Eric
