Default F4i air filter help

I posted this on another part of the forum on another persons post and got 0 results, so I am going to try it here. I have recently learned that my air filter on my 2002 F4i is under the gas tank. I was shown how to take the tank off and get to the air filter, but before I start the process, I was just wanting to know what exactly I am getting into and is it difficult to remove the tank, and once off, is it difficult to replace the filter? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I am wanting to put in a K&N filter.

Here is a trick to help you not to damage your tank....if you have a motorcycle tire handy (new or used, it wont matter) place the fuel tank on the tire..it will act like a pillow and it will never touch the ground. I have seen the most careful of people get it off and in the process of trying to pick it up with fuel in it, it is heavy and awkward and it rolls out of thier hands and BANG!!!! Nice dent/scratch and language!!

Not too difficult, just remeber which screws go where and dont drop any. Get a friend to help as having somone to hold the tank whilst you dismantle the rest is much easier.

def. get someone to help you out. i had my dad help me when i changed mine. i was changing the oil, oil filter, and the plugs. so i decided to throw a k&n in there because the air filter in there was dirty as a *****. [8D] it shouldnt take long to do just the filter. just be careful with your gas tank, like was already said.

Ok, I am looking at the service manual and it talks about supporting the tank. Do I have to remove the tank completely to get to the back screws on the air cleaner housing cover or can I reach them if I have someone support the tank? And if I do, obviously I will have to disconnect the fuel line. If I have to do that, do I have to stop the fuel from coming out of the tank? What is a good way of doing that? Thanks for all your help!!!!
