Default Engine Temp. Question

I bought a 2003 F4i a couple of months ago (2,700 mi) and just took it for a first ride (in case you are wondering why it took so long..I'm in Boston). As I was approaching home, I noticed that when I was at a standstill at a light, the engine temp was creeping up (as high as 226 degrees before I started out again). As I rode, however, the temp dropped (back down to around 189). I'm assuming that the air was helping cool the engine...is there anything I should be concerned about? My coolant and oil was fine. Hope this isn't a stupid question, but I'm not very knowledgable about engines. Thanks for any advice!! Scott

Make sure that the coolant level isn't just "level" but the coolant/water ratio is good as well. Also, if you bought the bike after someone else had it, try to find out if that person has been riding it or has it been sitting up for the past year. If so, your thermostat could be malfuctioning. I hope this helps your pursuit to solving your problem.

My 05 F4i does the same thing. I asked the local service shop and they said it was normal.
