Default Engine ID #...where is it??

Does anyone know where on the engine is the Engine Identification Number (EIN). Also, I would like to know how to verify that it is the original motor of the bike? By the way this is for a 954 I'm thinking of buying!!!

it's usually on the bottom of the crank case... unless the case has been replaced.

Mine is stamped at the back of the engine, facing the swingarm. You`ll need to crawl round the floor and possibly a torch to read it easy.
