Default DIY Ultrasonic Carb Cleaning?

The beginnings of an idea formed (snow days + internet + credit card = experimenting). Harbor Freight has a 2.5l ultrasonic cleaner. It should be large enough to do 1, maybe 2 carbs when separated. Bounced the idea off of IDoDirt a little and I figure "Why not? It's only $60". So while waiting for the cleaner to arrive, I need to prep.

Any ideas on a cleaning solution? A little web searching has returned the usual data overload of options. None of which give the vital piece of info I'm looking for: is it safe for the rubber parts in the carbs?

If I'm gonna disassemble the carbs, what parts should I go ahead and replace while I've got them in pieces? I've already rejetted the bike and I've already got a carb sync tool for when everything is reassembled. Float bowl gaskets are a definite. The diaphragms are in good condition so I don't need to order those. Any other bits I should get?

This sounds like an interesting experiment Kuroshio. Please take some before and after pictures of the surfaces you're trying to get clean as I'm sure a lot of peeps would be interested to see the results.
I've never heard of anyone doing this before but it's certainly possible. I've always just given everything a good old blast with carb cleaner which seems to do the job but if your ultrasonic produces a better result it may prove to be the way to go.
I recently gave my carbs a very quick clean after the engine rebuild to make sure there was accumulated crap in the float chambers but they were clean. I didn't replace any seals or O rings and they've been fine. No leaks. I wouldn't go replacing things just for the hell of it.
I'll be watching with interest......
