Gotta 2001 CBR F4i with 16,000 miles. This seems to be the DEATH INTERVAL for F4is'. I need to change: CCT ( soo tired of the rattling noise ) - Chain ( now at the "replace" zone ) - and now the Speed Sensor???? Still not sure exactly but I need to know my speed. It playing games with me now. Tells me the speed for about a minute THEN drops tozero THEN FI light comes on. Anyone else have these problems and what did you do to resolve them?

 

it sounds like you've got a bike that was quite abused. most people's F4i's are very reliable bikes.

I know mine has been nothing BUT totally reliable. I think the only issue I had with mine at 16k was a warped front brake rotor, and a tiny tiny bit of CCT noise (but not enough to warrant changing it yet.... by 32k though it was time). I did change the original chain at 14k though... it was getting kinks. Every chain I've had after that though has lasted about the same, around 15-18k, so I think that's about the normal lifespan. Other than that, never really had any problems whatsoever with it... she's been a dream! Clutch cable snapped at 65k, that's about it. Now at 86k and still running like a champ, and still drop dead reliable... I still take it everywhere!

Biggest problem I'm having is keeping these stupid OLD people from running into me all the time! [:@]

 

speed sensor is out on mine as well. $75 from the dealer

 

the CCT going issue is obviously nothing new andthe chain is a general maint item
your only slightly abnormal issue is the speed sensor and thats a cheap fix

Doesn't really sound like your bike is about to collapse into rubble or anything...


My F4i on the other hand has about a dozen issues, but all are caused by a lot of brutal track use and a couple crashes bordering on complete destruction, plus a good bit of hack job style modifications (its still got a little Cali emissions crap in it)
I think the fuel pump is having issues now

 

Waterpump leaking too? Aaaaaaaaaah! Why? I've been babying this bike for years and this is what I get.Its a very slow leak, maybe several drops a day. AND YES its coming from the weep hole. Haven't rode bike yet since discovering it but I'll see if it gets worse when riding.

 

buy a used one from ebay...cheap fix!

 

Yeah, your right ALOT CHEAPER. Probably will. Is there any other solution? Will stop leak work?

 

unfortunately no. once the water pumps are done, they start weeping and then leaking and then it's over.

i picked mine up for like $40 on ebay.

 

I owned my F4 from new. That bike was totaly babied. Only probs I had was a cct at 10k, and the centre stand seized around 20. Ive no idea why that happened, it was used everyday and kept sparkly.

Other than that, a bullet proof bike.
