Yamaha and Suzuki both send some chains that are continuous loop chains, straight from the factory. So yes, not all chains have a master link. They are pressed in at the factory and therefore every single link looks the same. You either have to remove the swingarm to install it, or break the chain and install a new master link. I have had to do this at least 5 times since I began working at a dealership. I still don't understand why, but they do.
