Default Chain broke dammit!

I don't know if the master link broke or if my RK chain even had a master link but any way my bike threw the chain which in turn scratched my rim all the way around and scratched my rear foot peg. I think it would have ripped my leg off if it weren't for the peg. So any way now I get to buy a new sprocket set cuz it also chipped a few teef. I was just curious if any one had any bad experiences with RK chains.

bro every bike has a master link. if there wasn't they would send you the chain already put together and that would be hard for a manufacturer to do since different gearing needs different lengths and some bikes (600rr) need the chain to be broken to get it though the swingarm

maybe you are talking about the rivet links so there is no clip on link that you can see but even the rivet links are pretty easy to spot (they are just a lot stronger than a clip type master link) none of the newer sport bikes even reccoment ever using a clip on link since they usually fail

Never had any problem with RK chains. You were lucky you didn't lose the engine block as well. It is not that unusual to have the chain run into the front sprocket area of the block, bunch up in there and destroy the block. OUCH $

my cb750 and my cb450 didnt have master links i had to use a chain breaker to take the chains off. granted i didnt buy them new but the people i bought them from didnt seem the type to actually do anything to the bikes and i got both of them with under 10k miles on them. its not impossible to have a chain without a masterlink.

There is always a master link... it may look like the rest of the chain because it's pressed on. I have the chain breakers and riveter, if you take the time to look, you will find one link that's not as perfect as the others. Master links that use a clip are weaker ant not recommended with the power our bikes have. They work well with the 50 or 60 HP cruisers

muahahhha...sorry for your mishap mang...
with the exception of the RK that came with the bike, every one that i've owned, in addition to a couple of riding friends of mines, and then some other forum members (not just of this one but other forums) have had bad luck with RKs...that's enough for me to stem away from their chains.

we only use DID.

Thanks for the replies I think I'm going to go with DID also, I don't want to take a chance on this happening again.

1. always check the slack of the chain every time you lube the chain
2. lube every 400-600 miles
3. clean chain every ~1K
