chain broke today
So i have had my bike for about a month and put around 750 miles on it. Well today I was leaving my house and pulled a wheelie at around 8k and before i got it all the way up the bike revs real hard and drops down and im thinking oh great I just broke something in the tranny and looked back and saw my chain on the ground. I had never seen this happen before so i was a little surprised.
Well it turned out after some investigation of the master link that broke that the guy before me put a new vortex chain and sproket on and it had the rivet type master link. well aparantly the guy just pressed the link on and never flared out the rivet so I have been riding around for hundreds of miles with a chain that is held on by nothing.
I know this is one thing i will be sure to check everytime i get a new bike now, i'm just glad it didnt come off at 150 on the interstate

Err... um.... ah...
When you bought a used bike, you shoulda checked everything. Tires, chain, forks... maybe going so far as checking the torque levels on the axles. When I bought my F3, I found at least 2 things that were potentially fatal before I had ridden her around the block: front axle spacers were wrong (when I torqued the axle correctly, the rotors locked against the fork) and the chain was toast.
On the F4i, luckily it was only low tire pressure and a fecked up suspension setting

Man, glad you're ok, though. That could have ended WAY worse than it did. Now it's just a matter of getting a masterlink in.
I got lucky once, too, several years ago. First to second up high and just snapped it.
Sometimes they tear the plastics up (or your leg).... or lock up the rear and try to dump you.
