Default Cam chain loose?

Is it possible for my cam chain to aquire more slack than the tensioner can expand to?
I am hearing a rattling noise around 5 grand. I thought for sure it was the tensioner. So changed the tensioner and that didn't solve the problem.
I have heard people say that cam chains can stretch tooo far. is this possible?

I actually just replaced my tensioner as well, with the J23 model number. It sounded great after i installed it for about 2 weeks but now im getting a faint little shake that sounds like its coming from the cam chain itself. But it only does it when i pull in the clutch(or thats when im able to hear it) around 3200 rpms and lower and stops around idle. I need to replace my regular chain and will be doing this weekend and ive got my fingers crossed hoping thats what i hear, also gonna recheck to make sure that i properly tightend the tensioner down as well, those things are a boger to get on.

ain't my tip mang...i passed it on from a dude named uncle_jeff...

check this out...to set the right tension with the manual tensioner, you are actually supposed to pull over the covers, get to the cam chain itself, set it to TDC, install APE and adjust it while measuring tension on the cam chain!!!

it's not so important with the stocker as it'll adjust to the right tension...but be wary that it won't back out so if it's too tight it stays too tight, like the APE...but that doesn't really matter because even if you install it to TDC...it will slowly get tighter as time goes on anyway.

no...uncle jeff is a DIY mechanic.
i'm just a pimp and DIY mechanic.

i just read somewhere that now they now have cctl with orange dots...WTH?
i think the first go around, they fixed the play in the cctl body and shaft but not the play in the pin cause all my j23s with 2 dots shaft and body are all solid still...maybe the orange dot they now fixed the pin? i don't know...

Just put on the new chain and sprockets, and i guess i had my fingers crossed hard enough. This remedyed my problem. It sounded like it was the cam chain, at least were the sound was coming from, but it was just the regular chain.
