Default Cam chain

I recently purchased a 1996 cbr 1000f; the previous owner told me it needed a valve adjustment to stop the rattle in the engine which to me did sound like a rocker. I do all my repairs myself and purchased the proper tools to do the job and followed the honda service manual. Only two valves were slightly too tight and after putting it back together I still have the same noise, not all the time but mostly at low rpm. After reading some threads I am now reasonably sure it is either the cam chain or tensioner or both. I want to replace both since my bike just reached 35,000 miles yesterday. She runs great with the power band all the way up from 3000 rpm. I want to go with a better than stock replacement for both parts but can not seem to find any. Could someone please help with the new parts or is it better to buy theoem parts. Thanks.

You likely dont need a new cam chain, JUST the tensioner. the 1000F CCT design left a LOT to be desired.

as with most hondas it uses a hydrolic tenioner which fades over time causing a rattling noise generally somewhere between 3-6k rpms on my 929 it happened @ exactly 5k.
do yourself a favor and buy an aftermarket tensioner from someone like a.p.e . its a manual adjustment so you never have to buy another one again. it gets loose down the line just tighten her up again

HAVOC. theres a problem with this idea. The 1000F uses a tensioner that is INSIDE the motor, rather than an external mounted, and should have been an external setup like most bikes are.

As far as I know, there arent any aftermarket tensioners for the CBR1000F. the later models, like the RR, yeah.
