Default Bike sat for 6 months

Hey guys,

My CBR has been sitting for about 5-6 months now and I haven't been around to keep it running. I transported it to my new place and actually sold it to roommate here. We're charging up the battery to fire it up and I was wondering if there's anything I need to do before starting the bike or things i should expect.

Firstly, should i drain the gas and add new before I even crank it up?

Yes, but it may already be too late for your idle circuit.

See how it goes, but if its idling really rough, don't be surprised if you need to clean the carbs.

Maybe even put a bit of seafoam in the vacuum tubes if you feel comfortable getting to them (assuming you got the bike running). Even though its probably too late don't hold the starter button down for a long time, 5-10 10 second bursts are better then one really long one it wont burn out your starter motor; also you will feel the urge to rev the throttle to help it start but don't, if you have a choke put that on after a few tries. If you get really froggy you can change the oil, not really needed but oil is cheaper then a new engine.

Next time if you know that you're going to be storing the bike for a bit put some seafoam in the gas and run the bike for at least five minutes to get the seafom into the carbs, disconnect the battery too or stick it on a trickle charger.

A carb cleaning is probably in order. In the mean time, put a few cans of seafoam through the tank (following the instructions of 1oz per gallon of gas) and see if it helps. It won't be a miracle cure, but could clear out some of the gunk.
