battery pops, smells
i have a 1994 honda cbr f2 it keeps killin batterys, after abought 40 minutes of driving it smells real bad like sulfer. then the batery will loose it charge and die.after that it will not hold a charge.i have already went thrue2 batterys. i just changed the voltage regulator its a aftermarket oem replacement without fins and its doing the samething to my new battery. im pretty sure its over charging my battery because if i only ride short rides like 20 mins its fine. did i get another bad voltage regulator? bad relay? bad stator? bad alternator?i saw a post on here before abought a f3 and how to check everything with a multy meter but havent been able to find the post again.anybody know the problem?
hey...you're going to have to do the charging system diagnosis to figure out exactly what it is.
sounds like the battery may be getting overcharged.
you need to get a multimeter and check the readings at the rectifier.

If your battery is boiling over, your charging system is overcharging your battery. That is usually a bad reg/rect. When you install the reg/rect, did you relocate it?? Or did you put it in its stock location?? In the stock location, there should be a metal plate welded to the subframe that matches flush against the back of the reg/rect. Is this plate still there?? Is the reg/rect flush against it?? If not, you'll have problems [like what you're experiencing now].
I would also check the wiring of the charging system. If your wiring is f'ed, it could be causing premature wear of your reg/rect.

i'm wondering if due to the the lack of fins, heat killed it?

I suspect he has wiring issues that are frying the regulator of the reg/rect.
Most likely the reg/rect is bad. They get really hot and without the fins it can't stay cool andwill burnup. I have however gotton some brand new parts that are bad right out of the box. Hope you get it fixed cause batteries are not cheap.
i put the new retifier in the stock location it looked flush and there is a metal backing im gona check it out today see if theres any gaps. i asked this questioin in the f2 forum before and was told to try some cpu grease im gona go see if i can find some and maybe try that. i just bought a multi meter yesterday so i'll try that too.
