Default Fuel Tank leaking

Hello forum,
In the process of doing my winter project, I wanted to take a look at my fuel filter and so I removed it from the bottom of the tank. It appeared to drop back in place without any binding or problem. When I put fuel in the tank (after remounting on the bike) it was leaking profusely around the seal (see #20)
Anyone have more experience than I on this? Do I need some kind of sealant or is the seal a one time use item?

You're supposed to always use a new seal for that. You're also supposed to tighten the bolts in an alternating sequence to make sure that it gets compressd evenly. If you number the screws clockwise, with the ones on the side being 3, and 6, the sequence should be 1,4,2,5,6,3. Just like a 6-lug wheel. (I hope that makes sence) Torque spec is 9 lb-ft.

yup there's a short cut. swap tanks with someone who's not using it, with the pump and all intact...

DO IT RIGHT MANG...unless you want to be a potential fireball waiting to happen.

Of course you know I'm going to do it right. I called the dealer yesterday and had the rush me a new gasket. I was just venting that's all.

It should be here tomorrow.

muahahaha...make sure you torque it correctly. it's a very sticky gromet. while you're at it might as well change the fuel filter.

I'll check it again tonight. Heck, my torque wrench may be wrong for all I know. I think I may have put too much torque on it or the threads were weak. If I can't figure it out, I'm just gonna take it to the dealership (one of the mechs owes me a favor anyways). Worse case, I'll get a new complete tank.[]
