battery smells

Default battery smells

its finally nice out here. took my bike out for abought 45 minutes came home and my bike smells like the batterys gona pop again smells like sulfer. this is gona be the 3rd battery in 2 years that blew. i already changed the voltage regulator. is it the alternator? maybe a bad relay? anybody know?

The regulator/rectifier should disipate the extra voltage from stator in the form of heat. If you have changed it already did you get a new stock R/R or an aftermarket...or a mod. I replaced mine with an aftermarket that has cooling fins on it and has a wide aluminum base where it touches the frame. I also put some cpu grease between the R/R and frame to help it conduct heat better.

Not sure what else it could be...maybe a short somewhere in the wiring???

its new after market regulator, i was told today that it might just be because its the first time the batery has been heated up and burning or spilling excess acid but im not sure. im gona try some grease see if that helps.

That could be it...if it is a battery with an overflow drain for the electrolyte...not if it is a sealed battery.
