BATTERY - F4i Self charges?!?
I searched the forums and saw a few threads regarding batteries but none about a new motorcycle...
Actually on my first day of riding before i took a fall; i rode for a little bit and stopped at a friends house when i tried to turn on the motorcycle it would not turn on...
My friend push started the bike for me... it then worked for about 2 months and it happened again one morning...and has happened a few times since...
I purchased a charger and noticed that i charge it and it is then working each time...
The dealership told me that if riding on low rpm's the bike wont recharge itself and that was the problem does anyone know if this is true?!?
It becomes a hassle for the bike to stop on me and im 20 minutes away from home sometimes..

RE: BATTERY - F4i Self charges?!?
There is a certain "break-even point" on all motorcycles, no matter what model. This is the rpms the engine has to be turning in order for the charging system to be able to surpass the amount of draw on the battery, amperage-wise. Ideally, this should be at, or just above idle. However, every accessory that people put on their bikes adds more amperage draw to the battery. This means that the break-even point rises. Also, every time you start your bike you are pulling something like 60-70 amps. Considering that the charging system can only generate around 5-6 amps, if you only ride for very short trips (less than 10 minutes), then the bike never actually recharges all of the amps that the starter drained when you started the bike. When you compound that with multiple starts, then its very easy to see how a battery can seem to not be charging.

I think the bike only charges the battery if it is over 2500rpms.

and just so you know, every battery after sitting for a period of time (like a day or two) will recharge itself minutely, typically enough for you to get it started, but not much more than that.
